Austin City Limits 2011

Somehow, someway, over the past 10 years I’ve missed out on Austin City Limits.  Not this year my friend!

Best City In Texas.    Amazing Mouth-Watering Eats,  Quality time with friends & family,  Bearable weather (by Texas standards) ,  and of course the 100+Bands over 3 days in Zilker Park. Could it get any better?

My collection of pictures might seem odd, but there’s an explanation.  I’m taking a Photo Documentary class, and our homework assignment for that week was pretty basic : document an event from multiple points of views and tell a  great story.  Below is my amateur attempt at telling that story.  (Click here to see the pictures in their entirety)

(Oh and another thing – the first ‘rule’ we learned in Photo Journalism/Documentary, is to choose one method to portray your story :  Black & White or Color.   I’ve obviously failed at that lesson, but I couldnt resist sharing the 1st set of images – I thought they did a great job at capturing what ACL is all about.  )

Summertime…. and the Livin’s easy

Okay – perhaps this post is a bit overdue.  I wish I had a good excuse, but I don’t.   I was too busy enjoying summer in New York.  Come on,  is there really anything better than summer in New York City?

Sammie – Everyone’s Best Friend

After some encouragement from friends and family, and deciding that my money was better spent investing in a creative hobby instead of shopping sprees down 5th Ave, I made the leap and purchased my first SLR.  I toyed around, bought a new lens, but to be honest was completely intimated by the whole thing. What does this button do? F-Stop what? ISO who? I finally decided if I wanted to use this thing for what it’s worth, I better take a class.

I took ‘Intro to Photography’ at PhotoManhattan,  and finally learned how to operate this beast of a machine.   Our class met once a week, and we had weekly homework assignments to practice our skills.   One of the first assignments was to practice composition with the same subject – but who or what would I photograph???  Should I roam the streets of NYC and find inspiration? … typical and expected….  Should I get creative with a bottle or glass of wine ?.. SNOOZE.

Where it all started

This whole photography obsession of mine started with a trip to India back in February 2008. I was equipped with my dad’s bulky Canon ( definitely no professional grade camera) and a new group of friends that shared a passion for photography. I snapped away, without any thought to composition, lighting, metering, etc. Continue reading

What took so long?

Yeah, that’s a good question.  I’m not sure what took so long either!  The site is finally up and ready to share with the world ( or at least a few dozen friends).  Before I hit the big 3-0, I decided I need to… no-no I MUST get this thing off the ground.  Where will this all go… who knows?  This site is in its infancy, so please be patient as I work on making it more user friendly and easy on the eye.

Also, feel free to share your feedback in the comments section. Certain pictures you really like?  Getting bored of shots of this cute puppy? (Shame on you!)     Ideas on a new post?   Please comment away!

Oh, and I couldn’t have done this without my crew, a special thanks goes out to :

-          My friends,  family, and pet friends that have willingly hammed it up for the camera;

-          Sammie, for obediently sitting through our numerous  photo shoots;

-          My NYC family that has begrudgingly participated in paparazzi photo sessions on the weekend;

-          My fellow photo-junkie that encouraged and threatened me if I didn’t get this site live by my 29th birthday!

-          And most importantly,  future family, friends, and clients that will one day pay me some $$$ to turn this hobby into a life long career. Just Kidding.. kinda  :)
